8 Tostadas is a great Mexican Style seafood restaurant. Currently, there are four locations that I know of; behind the municipal stadium, Versalles, Marina Vallarta, and Nuevo Vallarta. This week’s review is of the stadium location.

The Macedo family runs 8 Tostadas. A different brother owns each restaurant. Brother Fredy owns the stadium location. One of the brothers who doesn’t run a restaurant is Memo who owns Memo’s Frame Shop which we have featured.

The atmosphere is fun and energetic. Service is very fast. The clientele is more local than tourist. Like most of the restaurants we go to, 8 Tostadas is very casual.

What we ate:
1 Cazerola de Mariscos (Mixed seafood platter) $128 Pesos
1 Coctel de Camaron (Shrimp cocktail) $64 Pesos

What we drank:
1 Diet Pepsi $12 Pesos
1 Pepsi $12 Pesos
1 Limonada (Limeade) $15 Pesos

Total cost: $231 Pesos

8 Tostadas, a classic Vallarta style restaurant; patio dining, unassuming, with great food.

Cazerola de mariscos (Mixed seafood platter). A mixture of shrimp, scallops, squid, and snails. I chose to have it prepared “al ajillo” style, which means butter, garlic, and guajillo chile. Although the dish is prepared with strips of guajillo chile, it doesn’t have much bite.

Watch out for the habanero chile sauce. It burns. Habanero chiles are some of the hottest chiles in the world.

A small shrimp cocktail. We asked them to prepare it with the vegetables on the side and no broth. Typically, the vegetables are mixed in with the shrimp and everything is covered in shrimp broth. Most people add a squeeze of lime and a splash of chile sauce.

Every seafood restaurant in Vallarta starts the meal with a basket of tostadas and some salsa. They make their salsa far hotter than most restaurants.
