A New Lunch Find - Vallart Tita

Vallartita Seafood Restaurant - Puerto Vallarta

About once a week my wife and I go out for a lunch. Choosing a restaurant always starts the same. “Do you want to go for lunch? I dunno, you?” This goes on for a bit until we come to the conclusion that we really want to go out for lunch. Then starts the, “Well where do you want to go for lunch? I dunno, you?”

We decided we wanted shrimp since it had been a while since our last shrimp lunch. Our regular place is Mauricio’s a popular place on the highway to Las Palmas. This time we decided to be adventurous and head past Mauricio’s and look for something new. On the highway to Las Palmas there are numerous fish and seafood restaurants.

About a mile past Mauricio’s on the left-hand side of the highway is a place we hadn’t noticed before called Vallarta Tita. It’s actually hard to miss. It’s a huge restaurant. We decided to give it a try because it looked very similar to Mauricio’s.

When you place your order they bring you a bowl of shrimp and vegetable soup. Most of the Seafood restaurants give you a smaller cup of soup but here they give you a nice big bowl. The soup packs some heat. I finished every drop even though I had broken a good sweat.

We ordered the combination plate which included breaded shrimp, butter fried shrimp and arrachera (beef). The portions are sizeable although not as large as the portions at Mauricio’s. We normally split a dish and we were certainly satisfied.

The service was lightning fast, the fastest of any restaurant we have been to recently. Overall, I think I prefer the shrimp at Mauricio’s but the shrimp at Vallar Tita is very good. It’s a close call. One thing that Vallar Tita offers that most of the seafood restaurants don’t is a good selection of beef dishes. If you go with a group of people, oftentimes someone doesn’t care for seafood. It is nice to have some options for everyone.

We were some of the first customers of the day. We arrived about 12:30pm which is early for lunch here. I would expect it to fill up around 2:00pm. The restaurant is very clean and well kept.

Prices are reasonable. Our combo plate cost $125pesos which is about $12us. One combo plate, two sodas, and a tip cost us a total of $170pesos which I consider to be a fair price in a resort town.

We left Vallar Tita happy and full and will definitely return.

**Update**

We returned to Vallartita Restaurant and I tried a new dish that I really liked, shrimp wrapped in banana leaves.

The shrimp are steamed inside the banana leaves with mushrooms, red bell peppers, onions, and cheese. Good stuff.

3 years ago my husband and I met a gentleman when we stayed at the Mayan palace named Eduardo Rojo. We kept in touch when we came home to Iowa…but I lost his email address and we lost touch.
I emailed the resort, they said that he works at a restaurant named Vallarita.
We are planning on vacationing there again this October, but have no way to get ahold of him to see him.
I am sure this is weird, but if you go there….could you tell him his “Iowa friends” say hello.

Thank you!
