Favorite Time of Year in Puerto Vallarta

Rainy Season is My Favorite Time of Year

By far, my favorite time of the year in Puerto Vallarta is the rainy season which runs from June through September. My first impression of Vallarta was in late July during the peak rains, so to me “real” Vallarta is green and wet.

Other’s first impressions of Puerto Vallarta are during the dry season when the climate is distinctly different - cooler with less humidity and far less green, but beautiful without a doubt.

The weather in Puerto Vallarta during rainy season can be hot and sticky but I love the explosion of green. It always amazes me that grass can grow a foot in one week. You don’t mow the lawn at your house you whack it with a machete.

I took these photos from the side entrance at VallartaTita Seafood Restaurant on the highway to Ixtapa at about one in the afternoon. You can really see how wet and green it gets. Later in the day you will probably see steam rising from the road.

I agree with you 100%. I have lived in Vallarta for 5 years now. Every year I wait for rainy season to come. To me it really is the real Vallarta.
There are fewer tourists, and so it is more local. As you said, with all the rain, the vegetation is beautiful. The almost daily (or nightly) rain cools things down, at least temporarily. In September come the wonderful lightning and thunder shows. It’s all very tropical.
By the way, you have a nice blog going..

The lightning storms are incredible. Everyone should experience them. I never seen anything like them anywhere else.
