In Search of Breakfast – Palma de Leon

Today, my wife and I started the morning with the usual, “what do you want to do today? I don’t know, you?” After a few rounds of I-don’t-knows, we hit on the idea of going into town for breakfast which then started the next round. “Where do you want to go for breakfast? I don’t know, you?” We were looking for a place with good food that wouldn’t bust the budget.

We finally reached an agreement to try a place I had gone to a couple of years ago in front of Our Lady of Refuge church at the Parque Hidalgo. My wife wanted to know the name of the restaurant. My response was, “I don’t know.” She replied, “well how do you know it’s still there?” “I don’t, but if it’s not there any more we’ll look for another place.” I really wasn’t sure that it would still be there because restaurants don’t seem to survive very long in Puerto Vallarta.

Fortunately, the restaurant was still in business with the same inexpensive prices that I remembered. There is no sign on the building indicating that name of the restaurant or what’s inside just a table out front and a couple of menu boards on the wall. The place is called Palma de Leon. Their breakfast menu consists typical Mexican breakfast dishes, eggs any way you want them, chilaquiles, pancakes and fresh squeezed juices.

When it was time to order, my wife decided she wasn’t hungry. I ordered huevos a la Mexicana and a cup of coffee and she ordered a glass of orange juice. After seeing my breakfast, my wife decided she was hungry and was going to share mine. The portions are generous. One dish was enough for both of us and the food was very good.

The restaurant is on Argentina street in front of Our Lady of Refuge church on the north side. The nearest cross street is Peru.

Sounds like a great place. I’ll definitely check it out. Glad I found out about your blog and just added to my Google Reader. Just came here to help my father settles in his condo at the Marina Vallarta. He plans to stay here for up to 6 months. Out of curiosity, do any of you guys seen a good framing store anywhere in PV (as in posters and big prints.) I brought along a custom made 30″ by 40″ print of Puerto Vallarta that has both satellite imagery and streets names. I’m rather proud of my work. Anyhow, need to find a good frame store to have it framed.

Thanks,

William
