English Language Books

Puerto Vallarta’s best source for English language books, The Book Store, has recently doubled in size. I call The Book Store Puerto Vallarta’s Barnes & Noble. The only thing that is missing is a coffee shop.

The Book Store carries a full selection fiction and non-fiction books in English plus a growing selection of Spanish language books. It also has has an extensive selection of books for teens and children.

The owner Tom Barrett imports nearly all of the books carried by the shop which is not an easy task. He has done an excellent job bringing in great titles at a reasonable prices. Even with the Peso’s recent decline against the dollar he has managed to maintain very fair prices.

The Book Store in Puerto Vallarta isn’t the only english Language bookstore in the bay. Gringo Books is a good bookstore in Bucerias.

Over the weekend, I stopped in The Book Store in Plaza Caracol to see what was new. Although they had a number of new books that I had my eye on, I didn’t pick up a new book this time because my budget wasn’t cooperating.

The Book Store is the place to go for new English language books. It has the most extensive selection in the bay and the prices are almost the same as you would pay back home. They have recently added more Spanish titles and the owner Tom Barrett says the demand has been very strong.

The store carries a really great selection of books about Mexican art and design. It also carries a good selection of Mexican food cookbooks. Mexicolor is a book I recommend for anyone interested in learning about the role that color plays in Mexican life.

For those of you looking for books in English there is a great shop in Bucerias that sells new and used books. It’s called Gringo’s Books and it is located on #7-A Morelos street one store up from Lazaro Cardenas street. Morelos is one block south of the pedestrian Bridge.

About a year ago I bought, Traditional Mexican Cooking and its Best Recipes from them.  I recommend  it to any one who has  an interest in Mexican cooking.
